How to Add Yellow to your Wardrobe

This season’s colour of choice is yellow. Despite the fact there is no concrete proof that wearing bright clothing can lift your mood, I think you should take my word for it. When thinking of yellow, consider Emma Stone’s La La Land citrus-hued dress, or Emma Watson twirling in a yellow Beauty and the Beast ball gown, or Beyoncé’s 2017 Grammy’s performance outfit, or Natalie Portman’s Golden Globe red carpet look. Yellow is very much associated with sunshine, joy and confidence, and with winter coming to an end and spring beginning, it’s now that we all need a little bit of cheer and happiness in our lives as we start the countdown to summer 2017.

Although yellow has a reputation for being unflattering on most skin tones, I believe it’s just a case of finding the right shade for you. I find that if your skin tone is dark, you will most likely suit bold neon colours, whereas those with fairer skin should look to lighter, lemony variations.

My top picks for this season:

Coats

Yellow coats are a great way to create a statement in your outfit and come in a variety of different hues depending on your taste – bright and bold lemon yellow, pastel yellow, or a darker mustard yellow.

New Look Padded Jacket – £44.99

Only Padded Jacket – £35

River Island Trench Coat – £75

Zara Pale Yellow Long Coat – £99.99

Zara Mustard Long Coat – £69.99

(Although coat’s are more expensive, they last a long time so they’re well worth forking out a little bit more)

Bags/Accessories

As well as coats, bags are a great way to make a statement. Yellow bags look great when paired with plainer colours, such as white, as they make the colours pop and inject happiness.

Matt and Nat Pale Yellow Backpack – £56 (in sale, reduced from £90)

Nali Stone Embellished Clutch – £28 (in sale, reduced from £52)

Zara City Bag – £29.99

Abbott Lyon Mustard Suede Watch – £90

Tops

Yellow tops can be paired with anything and look great. Simple tees can be worn with a simple denim skirt or jeans, or a long sleeve top can be paired with a leather jacket or a pinafore for a more casual street style chic.

ASOS Choker Blouse – £30

ASOS Ribbed Jumper – £18

ASOS Knot Sleeved Tee – £25

River Island Roll Neck Jumper – £20 (in sale, reduced from £34)

Shoes

Depending on your style, there are different shoes to suit you. Whether it be smart yellow pumps to wear in the office, or peep-toe heels for a special occasion, or a pair of trainers.

Zara Stretch Leather Ankle Boots – £39.99

ASOS Paradox Heels – £18 (in sale, reduced from £30)

Novesta Classic Plimsolls – £28 (in sale, reduced from £40)

Sam Edelman Velvet Heels – £96.27

With love,

Victoria

  2. Hi Victoria, what a lovely site! I love the design. I was particularly attracted to the blog about wearing yellow. The character in my book, (yes, shes real) loves wearing yellow and you’ve given me some great inspiration. Keep it up and “Courage ma brave fille!”
