Style Files: How to Style Mini Bags

The miniature bag is one of the many accessory trends to imitate from the spring/summer 2017 runway, straight from big-name brands including Chanel, Hermès and Valentino just to name a few. Mini bags are smaller than cross-body bags, but tend to be bigger than a purse – the perfect size for fitting in the essentials this spring and summer: sunglasses, lipstick and your phone (of course).

Mini bags are universal. They can be worn with any outfit and still look effortless and chic from the crack of dawn until late in the evening. Think picnics in the park, soaking up the summer sun with your partner (Kyoto Gardens in Holland Park is a great romantic location), and finishing the evening off with a date night at the theatre, followed by cocktails in Soho – the miniature bag never look out of place. If you’re off to a formal event, for instance a summer wedding reception, mini bag’s still have the ability to look gorgeous even in a more formal setting, both as an across-the-body bag, or by removing the straps for use as a clutch bag – take inspiration from the Valentino SS17 collection (see below).

The SS17 collections showcase miniature bags in a variety of different colours and shapes – yellow being a popular choice. Bright coloured bags are always a winner, particularly in sunny spring and summer months, and make your street style credentials increase tenfold. Bold coloured bags look amazing with any outfit: from formal outfits, to casual sports luxe looks, and festival attire.

My pick of gorgeous chic bags at lovable prices from the high street and online retailers:

If you want to push the boat out…

Michael Kors have some absolutely stunning mini bags on sale right now. The Scout collection is one of my favourite collections to date, with Michael adopting a modern, vintage style of bag, which is my look down to a T.

The Scout Leather Crossbody Bag (£175.00) and the Scout Leather Camera Bag (£315.00) both come in a range of different colours to suit your style, making them perfect additions to your accessory collection whatever your style preference.

Although buying designer items are expensive, it’s sometimes worth spending an extra penny, or two, to get the perfect quality which will last a long time.

Tip: Choose bold and bright colours, like red, hot pink, orange and royal blue

With love,
