Wedding season is nigh, and the constant reminder to buy an outfit for that wedding you’ve got in July is being screamed in your face every time you walk past a fashion store. Wedding guest dresses have made a sudden appearance all over high street stores right now, offering stunning outfits for reasonable prices – what we all want, right?
There are so many gorgeous frocks available on the rails this year, and the floral skirt trend is adding an extra hand to aid you in finding the perfect outfit. I’ve complied a list of my favourite occasion wear from high street hotspots, including Topshop, River Island and John Lewis, and online stores such as ASOS, Boohoo and Missguided, to lend a hand in helping you find that special outfit for you (thank me later). I, for one, know how stressful outfit shopping can be…
From simple statement maxi dresses that you can easily dress up and accessorise, to girly pastel pinks, and one-tone jumpsuits and slip dresses. Whatever style you prefer, there is something for every budget and body shape – don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.
The Floral Skirt
An A-line midi floral skirt is the perfect piece of clothing for a summer wedding. Wherever you go recently, they are on sale in a variety of chic designs, from stunning floral detailing (like this one) to vibrant deep-coloured hues. But the best thing about midi-length A-line style skirts is that they suit pretty much any body shape.
This ivory white skirt, with carefully embroidered flower detailing, is without a doubt the definitive example of a summer wedding outfit – floral, lightly coloured and ‘flowy’. Paired with simple, neutral accessories, which most of us already have in the back of our wardrobes, this look is affordable and stylish. No one, and I guarantee no one, will guess that your outfit is from a compilation of high street stores and well-known online retailers.
Blue Pleat Skirt
To be honest, I always thought pleated skirts looked ‘old-fashioned’ and were a wardrobe staple for just ‘slim’ girls. As a girl that isn’t entirely ‘slim’ with a little bit of a stomach, a fairly noticeable derriere and larger-than-average boobs, I thought this style would make me look 5 times bigger than I am. But coming from experience, take it from me, this isn’t the case. I was pleasantly surprised by how this style fitted my waist and complemented my body shape, making me feel comfortable and confident.
From sky blue to rich cobalt, blue is the perfect colour for summer, especially once you’ve got a tan, and ideal for a special occasion. This outfit, along with the skirt, is all blue everything – the mix of pastels along with the deep blue midi skirt complement each other perfectly, to create a stunning head-turning outfit (without drawing too much attention from the bride of course).
Pastel Maxi Dress
Pastel dresses are the epitome of elegance and sophistication. Wedding guest outfits tend to incorporate pink hues, predominantly owing to the fact that all pink hues – from fuchsia to salmon pink – are widely known for representing love. This spring/summer, the ‘sunset’ palette captures the gorgeous colours of the season, including pinks, peaches and reds. This outfit incorporates all of these colours, for a stunning girly and romantic look, from the pastel pink frill detailed maxi dress, to the bold floral clutch bag which adds a touch of much-needed colour to an otherwise simplistic, chic outfit. A classic pair of nude heels and simple stud earrings are the perfect accessories for this outfit – you know what they say, sometimes less is more.
The Culotte Jumpsuit
Jumpsuit’s are perfect for those days when you want to be dressy, but can’t be bothered to shave or fake tan your legs – am I right? When the weather isn’t quite warm enough for a dress, a jumpsuit is the perfect option. Although this culotte jumpsuit allows the best of both worlds, as the halterneck and wide legs allow you to keep cool, whilst simultaneously still looking chic. Keeping the colour palette simple, such as a light grey, it allows you to be more adventurous with accessorising. For this grey halterneck jumpsuit, a metallic style clutch – on trend this season – is the perfect addition, alongside minimalist silver jewellery.
