Metallic and Orange: A Winning Combo

As much as I love the standard plain neutral colours that commonly found in everyone’s wardrobes – black, navy and grey – the spring season is all about introducing some much needed colour into our lives. For me, spring is all about being daring, wearing bold prints, florals and bright colours. This year, a new colour has been thrown into the forefront of fashion – orange

Orange is bold, bright and sophisticated, and the perfect hue to inject a sense of fun into our wardrobes. What struck me most about this colour is just how easy it is to wear, and it can be effortlessly dressed up, or down, for any occasion. For example, if colours aren’t your forte, try introducing orange through accessorising – think a mini bag, scarf or a piece of jewellery with a pop of tangerine. If you fancy being a little more daring, opt for an orange jumper, skirt or dress – whether it’s a vibrant, neon citrus hue or a more subtle burnt orange, you’ll be bang on trend this season.

This season’s trend has been inspired largely by ‘sunsets’, from yellows, to oranges, to pink/red. You’ll have noticed that earlier this year, yellow was a colour to watch out for, which has hastily switched to orange, with fashion already in talks about pink and red being another colour to add to your list.

Orange is probably one of my favourite colours, although to be honest it’s not something I broadcast as I think it’s a pretty odd colour to love. Hell was I wrong. This gorgeous head-turning colour has caught the eye of a variety of high-profile fashion designers, including Balmain, Versace, Gucci, DKNY and Victoria Beckham – just to name a few.

Celebrities has also embraced the shade, with singer and producer, Selena Gomez, attending the premiere of her long-awaited Netflix show ’13 Reasons Why’ yesterday in a stunning metallic orange strapless dress. Selena was definitely the centre of attention in tangerine as she stepped out on the red carpet with ombre-style earrings and peach make-up.

Golden girl: Selena Gomez was unmissable in tangerine as she stepped out on the red carpet for the premiere of 13 Reasons Why in Los Angeles on Thursday
Dress: Selena wore an Oscar de la Renta dress with contrast blue nails.
Star power: The pop star is the executive producer of the new 13-part Netflix series and was instrumental in bringing the book by the same name to the screen
I am so in love with this look – from the dress to the nails, to the hair to the shoes. Metallic and orange are the ultimate pairing.

Selena’s makeup is a stunning example of the one-tone look I previously wrote about – not only does it look effortless, it’s totally do-able and is even red-carpet approved. Her soft yet impactful monochromatic orange look, from the orange shades of eyeshadow on her lids, to her warm highlight to her nude lips, to the peachy blush, looked flattering when paired with her skin tone and her slicked-back brunette up-do. To add contrast, her nails were manicured in a striking bright cobalt blue – and people say that opposite colours don’t attract… I think you’re wrong, and so does Selena and her stylist, Kate Young.

What do you think about this season’s new colour trend?

With love,

Victoria
